Frankie's Health

Frankie has been treated for prostate cancer since last August when he noticed that after urinating, his bladder still felt full. A biopsy was done soon after his check-up. Further biopsies before Thanksgiving showed cancer cells so the decision was made to do surgery.

He had a prostatectomy in January - some birthday present! He has been given a clean bill of health by the people he calls the "flight surgeons." You will hear more details on Monday and beyond.

He was asked by his doctor to take part in an interview on ET and perhaps Larry King Live because his is a good example of how this cancer can be treated (with good results) if it's caught early. He agreed to do this in the hope of convincing other men to make this check-up a part of their regular physicals.

Thank you again for your support and concern.

It takes a great amount of courage both to face an issue like this, and to discuss such a private matter in public.

Our prayers are with him.

Frank Jr. must have gone through quite a scare, and I'm sure the surgery wasn't any fun either. Glad to hear everything's turning out well. Since your family seems like an extensive of our family, these things aren't received lightly. Hope that's the end of Mr. C for Mr. S Jr. Prayers and good wishes....Rich K

Dear Frankie,
I am glad to hear you were lucky enough to catch the cancer in time. Unfortunately my dad didn't make it to the doctor on time and the cancer has move into his hip, neck and leg. He no longer qualifies for the trial drugs and is now on, what is know as, pain management. I have lived abroad for 18 years and I am in the processes of getting my husband and son their greencards so we can be with him. It is very hard to see my strong father slowly lose his strength. He puts on a brave face but you can see the pain in his eyes. All I can say is MEN IF YOU ARE OVER 45 YEARS OLD GO TO THE DOCTOR! THEY MAKE WOMEN DO IT FOR CERVICAL AND BREAST CANCER IT SHOULD BE REQUIRED FOR MEN TOO!!!!

Dear Frankie, I only knew about your health in february 24, when I read the post of Nancy. I know that the worse already have passed and you are cured by now. I already put your name in my prays.
I would like to say to you how much is important you tell to the men, and young men about the need of to do examinations as early as possible. I have 2 sons, of24 and 32 and talking with them and their fellows , I saw that the great majority don´t want to do the examinations of prostate. Your example turn it so public like possible will help so many people aroung the world, because you are a world person. I already have breast cancer in 1997 and I am totally cured, but I did the examination with my own hands every day in the bath, this have saved my life. I always tell about this to my students. We have to speak very clear about this. I love you and your son Michael, hugs for all your family. Emília

Dear Mr. Sinatra -
Happy to hear you're doing well! We met in Salem, Oregon a few years ago. I had surgery for colon cancer (no symptoms) a year ago Jan 4. The cancer's gone, but have a few other complications. I'm scheduled at the Mayo clinic this week.
Happy to read you have a new cd coming out. I remember, in the fifties, how we'd wait in anticipation of you dad's next album. Best wishes to you and your family.
